Hair Soap vs Shampoo Bars

HelemaalShea makes two different types of shampoo bars: hair soap (rectangular blocks) and ‘real’ shampoo bar (round discs). The ‘real’ shampoo bar is essentially liquid shampoo in solid form, without SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), silicones, and other additives like microplastics often found in the ingredients of liquid shampoos in stores. Many prefer these types of shampoo bars over hair soap as there’s no adjustment period. Hair soap is genuine soap, but the formula is adapted to make it suitable for washing hair. Your hair needs time to adapt to washing with hair soap. Both types are equally beneficial for your hair. Once accustomed to the hair soap, they become fantastic shampoos.

HelemaalShea’s hair soaps are made using the cold process method. Cold process soap is made from plant oils and butters mixed with lye, undergoing the saponification process. The soap starts as a liquid and solidifies after a few hours, with lye disappearing from the soap, resulting in a solid soap block!

HelemaalShea’s shampoo bars are pressed. They create a paste by combining dry ingredients like foam former (small, SLS-free granules), herbs, and clay with hair-nourishing liquid ingredients such as jojoba oil and essential oils like lavender and rosemary. They press this paste into round discs. Due to this production process, they look quite different from the soap blocks
